Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018
106 Blairgowrie thus won the Cup for the first time since 1936, but the good form of Kirriemuir continued as they won the 2nd XI Championship as well as the Two Counties Cup. With players like Dave Torrie, Ken Orrock, Peter Dorward, Bruce McGregor and with Derek Beaton, Steve Walker, John Dorward and Alan Tucker to come, Kirrie was a force to be reckoned with for the next 20 years, particularly at The Hill. The 1st Division Awards were won by Strathmore men - Michael Thornton the Batting and Gavin McKiddie the Bowling, while in the 2nd Division, the old warhorse Jack Hirst of Kinloch won both. Charlie McPherson of Blairgowrie won a place for Scotland B v MCC at Lord’s, and the scoring system was amended to read 5 hours actual cricket (as in 1972) but if a side batted for more than 2 and three quarters of an hour, they would only get 1 point in the event of a draw, as distinct from 3. A win would earn 6 points. In the eleven seasons from 1962 to 1972 inclusive, Strathmore played a total of 200 matches in the Union and lost just 10!
