Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018
115 date having seen the game rained off, the game was re-arranged, but no-one informed the Management Committee! Interestingly, a proposal to change from Time to Overs earned the backing of the Management Committee, but the AGM turned it down “by general acclaim”. One would have liked to have been there! More mundanely, everyone agreed to start games in future at 2.00 pm. In a perverse way, cricket wintered well in 1974/75 as Britain struggled to recover from the social unrest of the last few years but was still plagued by labour disputes, not least Scottish teachers and dustbin men. Faraway Australia, now brought a great deal closer by a 30 minutes TV highlights programme on BBC 2, brought some relief, although there was little relaxation for the England batsmen pummelled by Dennis Lillee and Jeff Blairgorwie 1974 - Three Counties Cup Winners Back:- Stewart Morrison (scorer), John Crole, Brian Crighton, Derrick Pillinger, Donald Strang, Bruce Crole front:- Bill Lewis, Charlie MacPherson, David Davidson (captain), David Young, Murray Taylor, David Phillips Photo courtesy of DC Thomson
