Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018

119 Brechin came storming back in 1977 to win the 1st Division. Panchasara finished with an astounding Batting Average of 154.33! Second in the list came Ewan Massie with 64.00, and tales of Brechin’s batting prowess that season are quite astonishing. On one occasion, for example, against Aberdeen Grammar School FP they declared on 251 for 2 with Panchasara 133 not out; on another occasion at Dundee High School, they reached 203 for 4, declaring with Ewan Massie on 93 because he hit a six which sailed over Arbroath Road, just missing a passing No 26 bus and ran all the way down Kenilworth Avenue. The Brechin skipper reckoned it would take too long to get the ball back so he waved the batsmen in. Although their bowling wasn’t quite so consistently good, they finished the season undefeated.
