Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018
122 seasons yet in the history of the Union, not least in the game between Brechin andMannofield XI which had ended up in a tie, something that was hardly unparalleled in Union history but was certainly a rarity. Strathmore won the Three Counties Cup while Telecoms won Division 2 and also the Two Counties Cup. Sadly RAF Leuchars had to withdraw from Division 2. Forthill won the Under 18 League. The Averages in 1978 were topped by Jackie Knight of Brechin in the Batting and Clarence Parfitt of Arbroath in the Bowling, but as Parfitt was a professional, the Bowling award went to Colin Robertson of Dundee High School. Gavin McKiddie in second place took 79 wickets, a new Union amateur record. In the 2nd Division, the awards had been won by Les Milne of Brechin XI and John Bennett of Norwood. It had been a good season weather wise, but sadly quite a few matches had been forfeited. Dundee High unfurl their Championship Flag for 1978 Back:- Lindsey Ancell, Peter Walker, Phil Christie, Stan Renwick, Kenny Smith, Bob Freeman Front:- Tom McLeod (SU Pres), Howard Garden, Jack Stark (Pres), Bobby Hopkins, Martin Nicol, Jack Farquhar (Ump), Colin Robertson, Graham McLaren (Capt)
