Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018
137 effectively, limited overs was defeated after “a long and lively debate during which many of the ills of modern cricket were highlighted”, but a slightly more conservative motion, proposed by the Management Committee, which made games 96 Overs each with 48 Overs per side but still allowing the draw was passed by the necessary two thirds majority. As important as anything else was the requirement of sides to bowl a minimum of 18 Overs per hour, a condition normally honoured more in its breach than its observance. 1986 saw the weather only marginally better than the previous year, and for Brechin, the old adage “always the bridesmaid, never the blushing bride” came true, for they finished up as runners-up in no fewer than four tournaments. A sick joke ran round the town that they were to be sponsored by Mita because they “mighta” won four trophies.
