In the event, rain played a part, and the Championship went once again to the Lochlanders. One could hardly grudge Arbroath that, for Clarence Parfitt was in tremendous form throughout the season, taking 102 wickets at an average of 7.06, and on one occasion, early in the season, taking all 10 wickets for 44 against Dundee High School FP. (It was widely believed, and one hopes that this was a joke, by the other sides that Arbroath watered only one end of the wicket – the one which would be useful for Clarence!) On the batting side, Chris Plomer topped the Averages with 68.63. It was a great season for the club who took both Cup competitions and the Under 18 League with a promising youngster called George Salmond showing great potential and scoring a century for the 2nd XI against Lawside. On a sadder note, the club had, earlier in the year, lost Norman Chisholm, a great stalwart of the club and one time President of the Strathmore Union.
