Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018
165 difference of more than 20%, and winning 12 out of the 13 games that they played. Their professional Retief Kriel had an astonishing Batting Average of 96.29, but the main reason for their success lay in the bowling where four out of the top five spots in the Bowling Averages were occupied by Meigle players – Iain Stewart, Denis Christie, Retief Kriel and Gordon Drummond. The Second Division contained 15 teams (including anomalously two teams from Strathmore CC) and was won by Stoneywood-Dyce’s 2nd XI (their 1st XI was now of course in the National League) while Perth won the Three Counties Cup and Dundee High School FP the Two Counties Cup. Forfarshire had a good youth season, for their teams were triumphant at all three levels, with Arbroath second at all three levels as well, something which told us rather a lot about where all the good youngsters were coming from. Clearly every effort was being made in Arbroath at least to counter “player apathy”. Meigle - Undefeated Premier Division Champions 2001 Back:- Iain Stewart, Sandy Bruce, Bill Morton, Denis Christie, Craig Mitchell, Colin Nicholl, Peter C J Drummond Front:- Gordon Drummond, Retief Kriel (Prof), Bob Benzies (Pres), Peter J Drummond (Capt), Bill Scott
