Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018
171 seems tohavebeenan imitationof theway that someof theEnglish counties called themselves Nottingham Outlaws, Yorkshire Vikings or even (possibly in bad taste and certainly rather politically incorrect) Kent Spitfires! It was good, yet again, to note the strength of cricket in Arbroath. The previous year, the President had had cause to complain about bad behaviour on the field from players. This time, the problem seemed to be Umpires. Tribute was paid to the very few neutral Umpires who did a good job. But his complaint was directed at the club ones who were performing their duties inappropriately not so much in bias (that had always been a moan with players since the very formation of the Union) as in simply not knowing the laws of the game! Captains were asked to ensure that those whom they sent out to Umpire should have a more than adequate knowledge of the laws. But the Union was expanding. 28 teams had taken part in 2006, and 2007 Mannofield XI - Premier Division Champions 2006 Back:- Farud Choudry, Neil Martin, Will Anderson, Peter West, Phil Wood, Pete Maksimczyk Front:- Jonathan Milne, Simon McIllewie, Dale de Neef, Andy Innes, Chris Burnett
