Much in demand as an after-dinner speaker, Dave had an endless fund of stories with which he would regale any cricketer whom he met in the street. The bulwark of Kirriemuir for forty years, he scored that club’s first ever century, led them to two Second Division titles and three Two Counties Cup wins, won the Second Division Bowling Average prize twice and the Fastest Hundred once. Given his sense of humour and timing of a witty remark, it’s hardly surprising that he found his niche as Editor of The Dandy and was a star of Grampian TV’s Bothy Nichts.
