Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018

185 But an indication that things were not totally bad in the Strathmore Union in 2018 was given when Falkland, a teamwith a great tradition and dynamic leadership, decided to put their 1st and 2nd XIs in the SPCU rather than the East League, following their relegation from the Eastern Premier League. It was a breath of fresh air into a League structure which was showing signs of becoming moribund. Falkland duly won the North-Eastern Championship of the Strathmore Union, winning all their games although they were perhaps saved by the rain in their game at Stoneywood-Dyce in June. They won the League when they beat Stoneywood-Dyce at Falkland in August. The fire power of Harsha Cooray (867 runs) and the bowling strength of Ben Strachan (43 wickets including a 7 for 8 against his old team, Dundee High School FP) was simply too much for other teams, but Falkland decided that they wished to stay in the Strathmore Union for 2019. Stoneywood-Dyce however, took up the option of a play-off and defeated Kelso to qualify for the Eastern Premier League. Division One was won by Kinloch, the two midweek trophies – the Three Counties Cup and the Two Counties Cups were won by Gordonians and Stoneywood-Dyce respectively.
