Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018

222 MR BEAUJANGLES The trading name of chain of boutiques which also branched out into fast- food outlets, the company was owned by two cricketers who played for Telecoms, Ian Dand and Graham Wise. It may have been a coincidence that the season after they began sponsoring the Three and Two Counties Cup Competitions, Telecoms applied for and were elected to the First Division of the Union after ten seasons in Division Two. The company also sponsored the Beajangles League, a mid-week competition for Dundee teams. Sponsored:- Cup Competitions 1978 - 1981 MAC’S FROZEN FOODS An Arbroath-based supplier of frozen food owned by Bert McIntosh, this company began its support of the Union by sponsoring the Under 18 Competitions for the 1980 season. A trophy was provided which is still in the Union’s possession although it has not been played for in a considerable time. In 1982, Bert increased his support for the Union by giving an additional sum to run an annual Six-a-Side competition. This event became an annual fixture in the calendar, mainly restricted to Division One sides. It was hosted by a different club each season during the period of Bert’s sponsorship, being held at Lochlands, Lochside Park, Guthrie Park, Mannofield, Lochlands, Victory Park and Forthill successively. Sponsored:- U18 Competitions 1980 - 1988 Six-a-Side Competition 1982 - 1988 GRASSHOPPER SPORTS The trading name of Frank Bryan Sports Ltd, a sporting goods manufacturer, this was the first company to sponsor the League Competitions. Introduced by Bill Dennis of Glenalmond School, the deal established a pattern which would be followed on many occasions in the future whereby the supplier of the balls to the Union provided an additional incentive by way of a rebate either in cash or kind. Sponsored:- League Competitions 1980 - 1982
