Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018

19 surprised everyone by coming second. Indeed they were the only team to beat the Guthrie Park men. In the 2nd Division, Kirriemuir fielded a team in the six-team Division, but failed to make any impression on the still all- conquering Brechin 2nd XI, to whom everyone paid tribute for their high standard of play. Aberdeenshire had been rejected last year, but this year they tried again with greater success. This time they made it clear that it would be their 2nd XI and that they would call themselves “Mannofield XI”. Even so, reservations were expressed about the number of County players who might find themselves playing in the Strathmore Union. Sievwright, however, argued against restrictions clearly believing that County players would raise the standard, and the motion to admit Mannofield XI “without restriction” was passed by 10 – 4 with only Meigle and Downfield opposing them.
