Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018

THE AUTHORS David Potter is 70, lives in Kirkcaldy with his wife Rosemary, has three children, five grandchildren and a dog. He has loved cricket all his life since watching Strathmore at the Lochside, Forfar in about 1955. He was never a great player (although he did play briefly and badly for the now defunct Kirkcaldy CC in the mid 1970s), but in his time he has been a Scorer (for Strathmore in the early 1960s and Falkland since 2005), a Coach (for his pupils at Glenrothes High School) and an Umpire in the East of Scotland League and the Scottish League from between 1976 and 2004. In the Strathmore Union, he can claim to have scored for two separate teams who won the Union – but 54 YEARS APART - namely Strathmore in 1964 and Falkland in 2018! His previous cricketing works include histories of Dunnikier and Kirkcaldy Cricket Clubs, a History of the Western Union, a History of the East of Scotland League and an acclaimed biography “Sivvy” of Bob Sievwright of Arbroath whom he claims to have been Scotland’s greatest ever cricketer. His hobbies are football, drama, Robert Burns… and of course, cricket! Richard Miller has played in the Strathmore Union since 1972 and been an Office Bearer since 1984. He edited the Union Handbook from 1985 to 2011 and is well-known as a researcher of Scottish Cricket history. His photograph appears far too often in this book as it is! Gavin McKiddie was a member of the all-conquering Strathmore side, playing from 1956 to 1993, finishing with 1138 Union wickets and considerably fewer runs. He has been married to Anne for 54 years and has two sons, Fergus who also bowled and inherited his father’s batting skills and Calum who has no interest in sport.
