Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018

73 now in full swing, a large crowd attended Lochside Park to see a closely fought game, in which Strathmore scored a disappointing 115 all out, failing to score well against Wilson and Greasley while Brechin themselves struggled but eventually their last two, Clark and Hammond, scraped home as the light began to fade. Strathmore had some sort of compensation when their 2nd XI won their Championship yet again (for the sixth successive year). Meigle came second and also won the inaugural Two Counties Cup. The AGM was held in Jarman’s Hotel on 3rd November 1956, a very confusing and alarming day in world history with the British forces heavily involved at Suez, and the Soviet Union, while unequivocally condemning Great Britain for what it was doing in Egypt, itself did a great deal worse in Hungary in its savage suppression of the Hungarian uprising. Fortunately neither of these situations led to a Third World War (which had looked a distinct possibility at one point) and in any case, there was the important matter of cricket to attend to.
