Strathmore Cricket Union: the first 90 years a history 1928-2018

90 ably led by David Pattullo. Myles topped the Bowling Averages and Hazel the Batting Averages, (Arthur Wheat of Montrose, who had recently retired from being the Montrose professional, was the best placed amateur and therefore won the award) and not a single game was lost by Strathie in the Union. Hazel’s Average was an astonishing 86.83, and the next best was Arbroath’s professional Doug Greasley with 39.20! Strathmore also won the Three Counties Cup, beating Meigle in the final at Guthrie Park, and the Seconds won their Championship as well, although a clean sweep for Strathmore was prevented when Arbroath managed to win the Two Counties Cup. Strathmore eventually lost a game on the late date of 24th August and it was a friendly to Kelburne at Whitehaugh Park, Paisley. Even so, it caused quite a few Forfar eyebrows to raise. Such things didn’t normally happen, and it was one of the few times that Nigel Hazel’s team mates saw him really angry.
