n Af Jeremy Bray The European T20 qualifiers saw Denmark pitted in a group with Germany, Austria, Portugal, France and Cyprus. Germany were first up for the Danes. After bea- ting Germany comfortably in their 5 match series in Den- mark earlier in the summer, Denmark were strong favo- rites to win the game. Germany batted first and crawled to be 86 for 8 wickets off their 20 overs. Nicolaj Damgaard 2-16 off 4 overs and Shangeev Thas 2-14 off 3 overs were the standout bow- lers. After 5 overs rain came and the score was 0-25. This was enough to see Denmark win on DLS. Hamid Shah 18 not out the main contributor. The second match saw the Danes play Cyprus. In a totally one-sided affair, Denmark batted first and scored 189 for 6 wickets. Hamid Shah 78 off 49 balls and a late cameo from Mads Henriksen 20 off 11 balls were the highlights. Cyprus were bowled out for 28. Basit Raja 3 wickets for 5 runs off 3 overs and Nicolaj Damgaard 3-5 off 4 overs did the damage. Austria were the next game and proved a much tougher ask. A very disciplined bowling and fielding performance restricted Denmark to a below par total of 118, which could have been much worse if not for Mads Henriksen’s 38 off 39 balls. An outstanding fielding and bowling per- formance restricted Austria to 111 off their 20 overs. An- ders Bülow 2-12 off his 4 overs and Nicolaj (Mr. Economy) Damgaard 1-14 off his 4 were the standouts with the ball. Portugal were up next for Denmark. Portugal batted first and were bowled out for 81. Saad Ahmad playing his first game got 4-17 off his 4 overs. Monty Singh 27 not out off 38 balls and Anders Bülow 35 off 34 balls saw Denmark knock off the total rather in 15.1 overs. Denmark v France was the last game and saw Magnus Brunsgaard make his debut. Denmark batted first and got off to a terrible start losing both openers for 0. Rizwan Mahmood 72 off 50 balls, Saad Ahmad 34 off 34 balls and Mads Henriksen 57 off 30 balls saw Denmark score 176 for 5 wickets off 20 overs. France were never in the hunt and crawled to 103 for 8 wickets off 20 overs. Oliver Hald 3-10 off 4 overs and Nicolaj Damgaard 2-9 off 4 overs were the standouts. A successful tour saw Denmark qualify to the next phase of the World Cup qualifiers to be held in Guernsey in 2019.
