Danish Cricket Yearbook 2018

n Af Jeremy Bray World Cricket League Division 3 was one step to far for the young and inexperienced Danish side. With no cricket matches for 6 weeks leading up to the tournament, meant a massive uphill battle to climb if Denmark were going to finish in a high placing. All teams were playing competi- tively months prior to the tournament which made this more of a challenge for the Danish outfit. Two warmup games against the UAE got a lot of rust out but it was clear both batters and bowlers were extremely lacking in match play. Hamid Shah scored an outstanding 90 in the second game versus UAE and some fine bowling from Jonas Henriksen and Basit Raja also gave the side some hope and confidence. Denmark were soundly beaten versus Uganda after bat- ting first scoring 165 off 44 overs with Mads Henriksen 43, Saif Ahmed 30 and Hamid Shah 31 the major contri- butors. Uganda achieved their target for 5 wickets down but not without Denmark dropping vital catches which could have turned the game the Danes way. Nicolaj Dam- gaard 1-22 off 8 overs and Saif Ahmad 2-33 off 7 were the best bowlers and a very rusty performance. Denmark versus Singapore was next. Singapore batting first and got off to a flier with the Danish seam attack struggling for line and length got punished severely. At one stage it looked like Singapore would get well over 300 but outstanding spin bowling from Saif Ahmad, Nico- laj Damgaard and Anique Uddin restricted the Singapore side to a competitive 254 all out. Apart from a fantastic knock of 85 from captain Hamid Shah and Saif Ahmad 23, the Danish batting was poor against what was the weakest attack in the competition. A lot of soul searching was to be done after this game and personal changes. Denmark versus Oman was a cracking game.
