Danish Cricket Yearbook 2019

The second match saw the Danes play against Singapore at the very spin friendly Royal Selangor turf pitch. Singa- pore batted first and got to a very good total of 249 for 7, mainly thanks to an Australian first-class cricketer in Tim David, who batted superbly for a 97 off 75 balls. The Da- nes will rue the fact the spinners never really utilized the conditions as well as they should have, especially when Tim David first came to the wicket. The Denmark innings saw some good contributions and a much better batting performance getting to 213 off their 50 overs. Jonas Hen- riksen getting 30, Zameer Khan 32, Anique Uddin a figh- ting 43 and Jino Jojo another 30 at the back end of the innings. The Danes rued the fact none of the set batsmen went on to make a big score. The following 2 games saw Denmark play some excellent cricket, beating both Vanuatu and the very dangerous Qatar respectively. Both games saw the return to form of Freddie Klokker who got 74 and 80. In the game against Qatar Freddie shared a fantastic partnership of well over a 100 with Hamid Shah who also found some form with an excellent 93 in very warm conditions. The bowlers also found their straps in both games with Jino Jojo the chief destroyer against Vanuatu with 4-29 and Hamid Shah match changing wickets against Qatar taking 3-37 off 8 overs. Other notable mentions with the ball, Delawar Khan and Nicolaj Damgaard who both bowled extremely well and got into the wicket columns in both games. Dela- war Khan after not being picked for the first game of the tour, seems sure one for a good future with the Denmark team as his sling action from around the wicket especially, troubled most batsmen. The last game against Canada was to be a case of what if? Canada batted first on an excellent batting pitch at the wonderful Kinrara Oval where 300 is definitely a par score. The Canadians had plundered all the attacks before them. So, Denmark keeping them to a total of 302 was an excellent achievement, especially considering the inexpe- rience of the attack. Delawar Khan and Oliver Hald play- ing their first 50 over tournament, Jino Jojo his second and the attack being led by Nicolaj Damgaard, who is only 22 years of age and Anique Uddin who also is only 22. I have no doubt when this attack gains more experience and with the addition of one or two more quality bow- lers, the Danish bowling attack will be a formidable one. The Danes got off to a terrible start with Jonas Henriksen in his first 50 over tournament as an opening bat got out in the first over LBW for 0. This brought to the crease Mr dependable Zameer Khan to join Hamid Shah in a fanta- stic 1st wicket partnership. Both Hamid and Zameer with a little bit of luck on their side rotated the strike expertly well until what was the changing point of the game, the dreaded rain! This could not have come at a worse time for the Danish side as they were well in control of the chase against a tiring and frustrated Canadian outfit. Duckworth-Lewis meant the Danes had to reach a revised target of 221 in 33 overs. Not impossible by any means but would require some excellent batting right through. Unfortunately, Zameer Khan went early in the chase after the resumption for an excellent 60 off 72 balls. Zameer’s footwork and intent was exemplary and if he continues to bat in that fashion, he will no doubt go on to make some very big score for Denmark.
