n Af Jeremy Bray In build up for the Guernsey tour, Denmark had a quick stop off to Essex to play an Essex XI in 3 T20 fixtures. Due to poor weather, only 2 of the 3 matches were completed. With regular captain Hamid Shah back in Denmark due to work commitments, the captaincy armband went to Saif Ahmed who led the team with aplomb and oversaw 2 comfortable Denmark victories. In the first game Denmark batted first and reached a total of 124 with good contributions from Anders Bulow, 32 runs batting at number 4 at a strike rate of over a 100 and a late cameo from Jino Jojo smashing 24 at well over a 100-strike rate. The Essex team could only muster 107 with outstanding bowling figures from Nicolaj Damgaard and the Danish legend Bashir Shah who both got 4 wickets in their allot- ted 4 overs. The 2nd game saw the Essex team bat first and with a total of 107 it was never going to be enough against the Danish team. Saif Ahmed, Anique Uddin and Nicolaj Damgaard were the pick of the bowlers with Ni- colaj and Saif getting 2 wickets a piece and 3 wickets for Anique Uddin. On the batting front, Anders Bülow conti- nued his fine form at number 4 with 39 runs and Anique Uddin compiling an excellent 38 not out. The final game saw the Danish team bat first and after 10 overs the Danes were over a 100 but with the loss of 6 wickets. Nicolaj Damgaard and Anders Bülow opened the batting and proceeded to smash the Essex bowlers to all parts in the first powerplay with Nicolaj being especially harsh on the bowlers. This innings from Nicolaj persuaded the team-management that he should open in the T20 tournament in Guernsey. Unfortunately, the rain came and ended proceedings for the day whereby the Danish side now heads to Guernsey for the important T20 ICC- qualifying tournament.
