Danish Cricket Yearbook 2019

n Af Jeremy Bray The first of 4 T20 games against Finland saw a Danish A side led by Nicolaj Damgaard defeat the Finland team comfortably in what was a very one-sided affair. Finland batted first and were bowled out for 61 with Lucky Malik 2-10 and Bilal Ahmed 3-14 the pick of the bowlers. The Danes chased down the total with relative ease losing 2 wickets on the way. Nicolaj Damgaard 20 and Monty Singh 25 were the 2 wickets to fall while Lucky Malik re- mained unbeaten on 18. The 2nd T20 saw a Denmark side missing several first team players which in turn gave good opportunities to fringe players to perform. Denmark won the toss and after a fly- ing start mainly due to Hamid Shah, 36 off 18 balls, and a fighting 27 from Zameer Khan saw Denmark bowled out for a very much under par 108. Some very tight bow- ling restricted the Finish batters run rate throughout the chase and saw the Danes creep over the line by 2 runs. Nicolaj Damgaard the pick of the bowlers with 1-13 off his 4 overs. The 3rd T20 saw Denmark bat first again. Hamid Shah and Zameer Khan with 20 and 30 runs each respectively plus a fighting 31 at the back end of the innings from Wa- hab Hashmi, saw Denmark finish on 117. Probably 20 runs short of what they would have liked. The Danish bowling proved too strong for the Finish batsmen as they were bowled out for 79. The Danish legend Bashir Shah and young Musa Shaheen from Svanholm both finished with 3 wickets a piece in what was a comprehensive win. The final T20 match saw another Danish A side take on the Finland team. Denmark batted first for the 3rd time in succession and with some excellent batting from Delawar Khan 70, Lucky Malik 50 and 27 not out from Omar Hayat, saw the Danes finish up on 157. Once again, the Danish bowlers were way too strong for the Finish batters and bowled them out for 80. Pick of the bowlers were Oliver Hald 3-10 and Adeel Akhter 2-10. The big plus coming out of all the 4 T20 matches was that many new faces that were given good opportunities to get international exposure due to unavailability to most of the first team squad. Players like Lucky Malik, Bilal Ah- med and Musa Shaheen are certainly players to look out for in the near future. Thanks to Svanholm Cricket Club who hosted all 4 T20 matches on the grass wicket.
