In 1935 and 1936 an experimental law was in operation under which a batsman could be lbw to a ball that pitched outside the off stump, provided it hit the batsman in between wicket and wicket. Dismissals under the new law were recorded as “lbw(n)”. The new law became permanent in 1937. MODERN From 1967 onwards, until at least 1987, the Chronicle contains very little information about KES cricket, and almost nothing about individual matches. As from 1992, in most years the Chronicle has provided potted scores of individual matches, but no detailed scores. The following are miscellaneous notes culled from various sources. 1965 New pavilion opened. Retirement of JB Guy as master in charge of cricket marked by match between KES and JB Guy’s XI (including AC Smith and OS Wheatley). 1966 KES 37 v Common Room - A M Paul 22, 3 extras (D F Cockle 4-5, D Ganderton 3-6, TG Freeman 3-23). DFA Cockle retired as cricket professional. Match played in his honour 16 July: 1950 XI v 1960 XI. He came to KES in 1949. 1974 JA Claughton played for The Rest v Southern Schools and for HMC Schools v ESCA at Eastbourne. 1975 Won Warwickshire Schools Cup (O E Gazette Feb 1976).
