! 27 October!10 th !–!Geoffrey!Boycott!OBE! T he!Society’s!62 nd !programme!got!underway! with!a!dinner!at!the!Ardsley!House!with!Yorkshire! CCC!president,!and!Society!Patron,!Geoffrey! Boycott!OBE,!accompanied!by!his!wife!Rachel.! The!dinner!was!held!appropriately!in!the! Fitzwilliam!Suite!and!was!well!attended!by!both! members!of!the!Society!and!guests.!!Geoffrey’s! term!as!Club!President!ended!in!December!and! this!was!his!last!function!in!the!role.!After!the! event!the!couple!went!home!to!South!Africa!and! then!on!to!Australia!for!the!Ashes!series.! Geoffrey!told!the!guests:!“The!academy!at! Yorkshire!is!working!very!well,!we!have!got!five! kids!in!the!England!under!19!squad!but!as!soon!as! they!play!for!England!you!as!members!don’t!see! them.!!Joe!Root!got!a!couple!big!scores!early!in!the! season!then!he!went!to!play!for!England!and!we! haven’t!seen!him!since.!!I!saw!Tim!Bresnan!last! week!and!I!told!him!that!I!didn’t!recognise!him! because!it’s!been!that!long!since!I!saw!him.”! Geoffrey!also!said:!“I’ve!hit!more!sixes!in!my!Test! career!than!Don!Bradman.”!A!guest!shouted!out! ‘He!only!hit!five’.!Geoffrey!replied:!“Yes,!but!I!hit! eight.”! He!also!spoke!about!Sachin!Tendulkar’s!decision! He!spoke!about!his!friendship!with!Brian!Clough! and!the!way!he!got!the!best!out!of!his!players.!He! then!answered!questions!(for!well!over!an!hour)! from!the!audience!about!the!state!of!cricket.!!The! evening!was!enjoyed!by!all!and!was!a!successful! start!to!the!2013M14!season.! NW ! October!17 th !–!Dave!Callaghan!of!BBC! Radio!Leeds!with!Yorkshire!First!Team! Coach!Jason!Gillespie! BBC!radio!commentator!David!Callaghan!made!a! welcome!return!to!the!Society!bringing!with!him! Yorkshire!Head!Coach!and!former!Aussie!Test!star! Jason!Gillespie.! The!evening!started!with!a!quiz!as!Dave!asked!11! questions!and!three!lucky!Society!members!won!a! bottle!of!wine!each.!Dave!then!interviewed!Jason.!!! Jason!spoke!about!when!he!first!joined!Yorkshire! as!a!player!in!2006!after!he!had!scored!201!as!a! nightwatchman!for!Australia!against!Bangladesh.!
