! 34 in!mind,!starting!with!Australia!v!India.!They!had! access!to!some!of!the!players,!especially!Ed! Cowan!who!was!a!mate!of!Jarrod’s.!During!the! series!they!also!met!a!lot!of!commentators!and!exM cricketers!and!found!that!they!were!not!alone!in! their!concerns!about!the!future!of!Test!cricket.! The!audience!then!watched!the!film!presentation! and!afterwards!discussed!the!specifics!of!the! threat!in!our!question!and!answer!session.!The! main!thrust!being!the!everMincreasing!threat!of! the!IPL!and!the!power!being!gained!by!the!powers! that!be!that!are!involved!with!the!running!etc!of! that!event.!Concerns!were!raised,!especially!by! members,!who!feared!a!Kerry!Packer!situation! where!the!best!players!would!be!lured!away!by!an! extended!version!of!the!IPL!(already!being! considered).!This!was!a!very!lively!session,!which! left!the!audience!with!a!lot!of!unease!about!the! future!of!Test!Cricket,!and!lots!of!food!for!thought.!!! March!27 th !–!Coaching!Awards!night! with!Yorkshire’s!Richard!Damms!and! Matthew!Fisher! Our!guests!tonight!assisted!our!President!Dickie! Bird!in!the!presentation!of!a!large!number!of! awards!to!local!young!cricketers!who!had! progressed!through!the!Society!nets!from!January! to!March!2014.! Richard!then!introduced!our!young!guest,! Matthew!Fisher,!a!rising!star!of!the!future.! Matthew!was!the!ideal!young!guest!for!this! evening,!and!all!the!young!cricketers!heard!how! with!talent,!dedication!and!commitment,!someone! so!young!could!have!so!much!success.!Matthew! has!represented!Yorkshire!at!virtually!all!the! junior!levels,!culminating!in!his!appearance!at!a! very!early!age!with!Yorkshire!Second!Eleven!and! then,!in!2013,!the!First!team.!He!excelled!in!the! England!junior!setMup!with!some!fine! performances!with!England!under19s!including! bowling!figures!of!3!for!55!v!India!and!3!for!18!v! New!Zealand.!To!give!you!some!idea!of!his!talent,! not!only!as!a!fast!bowler,!he!made!a!century!with! the!bat!in!a!senior!league!when!he!was!only!13!– definitely!a!career!to!follow.! We!then!went!straight!into!the!question!and! answer!session!with!lots!of!questions!put!to!our! young!star!guest!and!the!usual!frank!response! from!Richard.! The!prospects!for!YCCC!were!well!covered!along! with!modern!coaching!methods!and!other!young! prospects.!Question!and!answer!session!ran!well! into!overtime,!and!was!brought!to!an!end!by!the! timely!arrival!of!the!pie!and!peas.!
