16 Eric Sykes Award Runner-Up – Charlie Baker This is a lad who just plays without any fuss at all and always listens, bowling a consistent line and length, with great accuracy. His batting is improving and we are sure he will have a good season this year in junior cricket. John Arlott Award Winner – Matthew Marsh Matthew started many years ago in the junior net and has now developed into a very good cricketer, always with a smile and a helpful piece of advice for his teammates. His sudden gain in height has helped his bowling signify- cantly and he is working out batsmen’s strengths and weaknesses. His batting has improved in technique and he is now making important contributions in senior cricket. John Arlott Award Runner-Up – Harry Greenwood Harry, like Matthew, has also moved through the nets from first to fifth. Having previously bowled leg spin, he has successfully changed this year to bowling seamers. His batting has continued to improve in the style of an opening batsman and one who the rest of the net find very difficult to get out. He always tries his best and listens to advice. Jack Sokell Award Winner – Oliver Depledge Having only taken up cricket three years ago, Oliver has been with us for two winters now and has made excellent and continual progress on all aspects of his game. This year he has shown greater levels of concentration in addition to which he always shows a satisfying willingness to listen and learn and to put into practice the points he has been given. As a result, he will enjoy his cricket more this summer and score more runs and take wickets for the team in both junior and senior cricket. He certainly has the potential to do so. Colleen Morley Award Winner – Harry Morris Harry is a privilege to coach and is a very good batsman. He listens to everything the coach says and is very keen to put these coaching points into his game. He also knows himself when he has not played a shot how he would have liked and works hard on his game. In time his technique will improve. He also is a talented wicket-keeper and good wicket-keeper/batsmen are a massive bonus to any team and in high demand. A great lad with real promise, who could play at a high standard. Dickie Bird Award Winner – Jack Workman The winner of the WCLS President’s special award is a talented young lad who is a true team player. Having won the Derek Moxon award in his first year as a ten-year-old, Jack progressed quickly through the nets to finish in the fifth net two years ago. He has a good, easy on the eye bowling action and has the ability to swing the ball both ways at decent pace. He is a stylish batsman who has always timed the ball sweetly with a good range of front and back foot shots. With a little more consistency and concentration, he has the potential to become a very good cricketer.
