Prospects for England were also discussed after such a disappointing winter and no one was in any doubt that we will have our hands full this summer with the in-form Aussies, and Kiwis visiting. The arrival of the pie and peas brought an end to proceedings for what had proved to be a highly entertaining series of meetings. I think everyone involved in bringing them about should be congratulated and anyone interested in coming to next winter’s meetings, you will not be disappointed. Yorkshire Stalwart Receives Major Society Award At the Society’s AGM meeting in September 2014, Ralph Middlebrook was nominated to receive one of Wombwell’s most prestigious awards, the E.H.Umbers Award for Services to Yorkshire Cricket. Ralph has given unstinting service as a coach of young cricketers in the county over many years, with involvement at the County Club, ACC (Association of Cricket Coaches), YCB Coaches Association, YCB Pathways programme, YCB Junior Forum and of course service at his beloved Pudsey Congs CC. Father of Yorkshire and Essex off-spinner James, Ralph will have been delighted to have seen his son playing once more for Yorkshire CCC during the 2015 season. Ralph received his deserved award at the Society’s Christmas lunch in December 2014 from Yorkshire and Wombwell President Dickie Bird. WINTER SEASON 2015/16 Don’t miss the start of the new Wombwell winter speaker programme, with meetings throughout the winter months, from October to March.
