The Twelfth Man 2016

21 and despite me making them work particularly hard on a couple of occasions, it was those sessions that have aided me make my decision. It was within these sessions that I saw those with a bit more work ethic applying themselves more and thinking about their game just that little bit more. So with that in mind, the runner-up award this year goes to this young man, for the thought he put into his game using the pace and guiding the ball around whilst batting. Further to that, he consistently bowled with a great line, swinging the ball away with plenty of tantalizing flight to draw the batsmen into a false stroke time and time again. Well done I was really impressed. The runner-up of the Dickie Bird Award is Charlie Baker . The winner this year was more straightforward for me. From the first session I have been a great admirer. It was his determination to try, try and try again to get his arm correct during which time I have seen him bowl some brilliant deliveries: the flight, the guile and the thought that goes into every delivery. He has tied some batsmen in knots and frustrated every bowler. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the winner and our conversations on the next delivery. Keep on doing what you are doing with the ball, it’s an art and takes time and courage to try and master it. Well done. So it is with great pleasure that I announce that this year’s winner of the Dickie Bird Award is Harry Sykes .
