Lincolnshire County Cricket League and Grimsby and District Cricket League Guide 1969

SOUTH HUMBERSIDE ADVISORY COUNCIL 7th March, 1969 CHAIRMAN'S REPORT In December, 1967, representatives of the Grimsby Count y Borough, Cleethorpes Borough and Grimsby Rural District Councils, met repre– sentatives of local sports organisations and as a result of t his meeting, the three authorities agreed to jointly sponsor a local Sports Advisory Council, called The South Humberside Sports Advisory Council. The Council have proved to be most lively right from the br ginning and at present there are thirty-five organisations represented on the Sports Council, th irty of these representing actual sports in the area. Only one _of the so-called "major sports" is not represented on the Sports Council, that being golf. An initial appraisal of all sports facilities in the area was the first matter.·discussed by the Council. From this sprang the idea of a Sports Directory and a Sub-Committee was formed to look into the possibility of publishing such a booklet. Arrangements are now well in hand for this publication and as you well know all the work for the printing of the booklet has been done by the Sports Council itself. The Water Sports Sub-Committee has held meetings with the local W ater Authorities to ensure t hat all water sports are catered for in the construction of the Covenham Reservoir. The Sports Displays Sub-Committee has arranged a programme of Sports Displays in the New Central Library in Grimsby, lasting until the middle of 1970. The newly formed Local Sports Events Sub-Committee is at present arranging a "Sports Personality of the Year" Dance, where a trophy, kindly donated by the Grimsby Even·ing Telegraph, will be presented to the outstanding amateur Sports Personality in the Area. Representatives from the Grimsby County Borough Council, and the lmmingham and Humberston Parish Councils have attended meetings of the Sports Council and brought forward proposed plans for Sports Centres in their respective areas. Details and plans were approved and recommendations sent to appropriate bodies. What of the future ? There is a possibility of an International Sports Week in competition with the town of Bremerhaven within the next year, an·d we are looking forward to this immensely. We are also hoping to arrange a series of knock-out Sporting Competitions with local industries sponsoring such evens I think you must agree that for a newly formed body the Sports Council has got off to an excellent start and we can be justly proud of what we have done in the first year. Here I should like to extend my thanks to Mr. Ward and Mr. Farmer our Honorary Secretary & Treasurer and to Mr. Robinson, Mr. Blackburn and Mr. Welsh of the Town Clerk's Office in Grimsby for all the excellent work they have done on behalf of the Sports Council. In particular I would like to extend the thanks of all members of the Sports Council to Mr. Robinson who is leaving Grimsby in the near future. I am sure you would like to join me in wishing him well in his new vocation. Finally, I should like to extend my thanks to all members of the Sports Council. I know that each and every one of you has given a great deal of time and trouble to the activities within the Sports Council. I can assure you that it is greatly appreciated. COUNCILLOR M . DOLPHIN Chairman. 2
